The traditional Sauna is characterized by the installation in Fir wood, it is a wood that comes from northern Europe, mainly from Finland, which is worked and handled very well. One of its fundamental characteristics are the knots and its light color that resists the passage of time very well.

The design Sauna is characterized by the installation of clean wood, without knots, whether they are Ayous wood, Red Cedar or the design in straight lines in BIRCH. The trend of recent years marks an increase in glass in the construction of Saunas and innovation in lighting.

The outdoor sauna is characterized by a construction with thicker panels of resistant wood, roofs with different pitches, the greatest possible tightness and continuous maintenance of the wood in contact with the outside.

Heat-Treated Wood: The 5 Reasons Why It's the Perfect Choice for Custom Saunas

Saunas have a fascinating history dating back to immemorial times, playing a crucial role in the pursuit of relaxation, revitalization, and well-being. Their origin can be traced to prehistory, particularly in Finland, where traces of the first saunas, dating back over 10,000 years, have been discovered. These primitive structures consisted of pits dug into the ground that were heated by fire, marking the beginning of a tradition deeply rooted in Nordic culture. Over the centuries, the design and construction of saunas have undergone remarkable transformations. However, wood has maintained its prominence as an essential material due to its natural warmth and aesthetic appeal. Among the available varieties, heat-treated wood has emerged as a prominent option. This material combines the intrinsic qualities of wood with superior durability and stability, in addition to offering safe, hygienic, and very pure properties, consolidating itself as a preferred choice for the construction of modern saunas. 1. Durability and stability: key qualities of wood for saunas

Heat-treated wood stands out for its extraordinary durability and stability, making it an optimal material for sauna construction. Thanks to the heat treatment process it undergoes, its cellular structure undergoes significant modifications that provide it with exceptional resistance to deformation, cracks, and decomposition. This ensures that saunas made with this material not only withstand the high temperatures and humidity typical of these environments but also maintain their structural integrity over time, thus minimizing the need for frequent repairs or replacements. In sauna and spa environments, temperature and humidity changes are inevitable. Heat-treated wood, with its lower equilibrium moisture content, offers superior dimensional stability and maintains its shape much more efficiently than untreated wood. Opting for heat-treated wood allows manufacturers to offer saunas that not only meet the highest quality standards but also ensure customer satisfaction over the years. Lining a sauna with heat-treated wood not only improves its resistance to extreme conditions but also significantly reduces maintenance costs and efforts, guaranteeing greater durability and less need for long-term interventions. 2. The importance of moisture and resin resistance in wood for saunas

Humidity is a constant in saunas and can affect the materials used in them. The reduced moisture absorption capacity of heat-treated wood is a game-changer in this regard. By selecting Goccia Spa, the sauna manufacturer can offer products that resist warping, degradation, and other moisture-related problems, resulting in more durable saunas that maintain their visual appeal. Due to thermal modification, Goccia Spa products are pure, safe, and hygienic for indoor use, even for people allergic to the volatile organic components of wood. From a visual point of view, heat-treated wood wonderfully retains its color and does not secrete any resin through surface treatments. Thanks to its resin-free property, knots do not show through paints or stains even over time. Goccia Spa recommends the use of paraffin oil to ensure a high hygienic level in saunas. Heat-treated wood is a durable and safe material both inside and outside the sauna.

3. Reduced thermal conductivity: another advantage for wood in saunas

In the field of saunas, the thermal conductivity of materials plays a fundamental role. Goccia Spa’s heat-treated wood presents significantly lower thermal conductivity compared to denser woods. This property directly influences the user experience, as both the benches and the walls of the sauna are in direct contact with those who use it. Lower thermal conductivity allows for maintaining a more comfortable surface temperature, favoring prolonged sessions with a greater degree of comfort. The low thermal conductivity of Thermowood helps maintain a comfortable surface temperature on sauna benches.

4. Easy machinability: why it is important in sauna wood

The treatment that the wood undergoes does not alter the distinctive characteristics of Goccia Spa, given that the process modifies the entire piece. In many cases, it will not be essential to sand the finished profiles, as their brushed surface presents exceptional quality. In addition, cutting is as simple as with any conventional wood. However, it is recommended to use a dust mask and safety glasses during machining to ensure user safety. Finnish sauna with heat-treated wood awaiting smoked glass installation.

5. Commitment to sustainability

Originating from sustainably managed Finnish forests and subjected to an advanced chemical-free thermal modification process, heat-treated wood is presented as an environmentally responsible alternative, ideal for those who prioritize sustainability. This innovative material has the capacity to absorb up to five times more carbon than is emitted during its manufacturing, consolidating itself as a truly ecological choice. Incorporating saunas made with heat-treated wood allows for capturing a constantly expanding market segment that seeks ethical and environmentally committed products. Outdoor Saunas with Viroc: Superior Insulation, Modern Design, and Guaranteed Durability

Viroc stands out for its great weather resistance, withstanding humidity, temperature changes, and UV radiation without deteriorating. Its low water absorption, less than 1.5% in 24 hours, and its frost resistance make it ideal for humid climates. Thanks to its density and composition, it offers excellent thermal insulation (conductivity of 0.22 W/m K, twice as efficient as ordinary brick) and acoustic insulation (airborne noise reduction by up to 35 decibels with a 16 mm thickness), creating a peaceful and comfortable sauna environment.

Aesthetically, Viroc is natural and modern, adaptable to various design styles. Its availability in various colors and textures allows for sauna customization. Furthermore, its composition with renewable materials and absence of VOCs make it a sustainable and healthy option. It has a B-s1, d0 fire resistance rating, making it highly flammable and flame-resistant, providing greater safety. Its installation is simple, as it can be cut, nailed, screwed, or glued with conventional tools, making construction easier.

Viroc requires no special maintenance and is highly resistant to fungi, insects, and termites. Its outdoor durability ensures a long life with minimal maintenance.

In short, Viroc is an excellent choice for building outdoor saunas because it is durable, insulates well, is safe, and has an attractive design.

Interior Lining

It is distinguished by its craftsmanship with paulownia, walnut, and cedar panels, combining elegance and durability. This technique employs thicker panels, creating a solid, continuous surface that highlights its contemporary aesthetic. The use of these woods not only provides warmth and sophistication but also guarantees superior structural stability, ideal for those seeking a design with clean, harmonious lines.

The panel provides precise control over the finish, allowing for refined textures that integrate perfectly into modern and minimalist spaces. The uniformity of its surfaces, combined with the natural richness of the wood, results in a sophisticated and timeless style. Furthermore, its strength and durability make this range an excellent choice for those who value quality and design in every detail. With the modern range, functionality and aesthetics merge in perfect balance.

Isolation

One of the highlights is the excellent insulation capacity of this sauna model, offering double insulation with a chamber between them. On one side, we have a 5 cm thick wall with the HYBRIS panel from ACTIS.

HYBRIS is a 3-in-1 alveolar insulation that ensures thermal insulation in winter/summer, acoustic insulation, and airtightness. Its high performance is certified by the CE marking, DIT 628/17, and ACERMI. Its aluminum surface reflects heat, significantly improving energy efficiency.

HYBRIS does not collapse over time, thus offering long-lasting insulation. Its components are safe for health, respectful of indoor air, and free of irritating fibers. It is very light and pleasant to install.

R = 3.20 m² K/W with a 105 mm thickness and 3.80 m² K/W with an air chamber in the wall.

On the other hand, we have a second wall of another 5 cm with thermal rock wool from ROCKWOOL, a world leader in the manufacture of both acoustic and thermal rock wool panels. This double insulation, together with the 1 cm chamber that we leave between the two, makes this sauna have one of the most efficient insulation systems ever known in the world of saunas.
